Behold, notes on the faerie kind! Yes, Ramon DeLeon did much in the ways of researching these fine folk, but there is still more to unveil. So, let me show you some notes from the planar guild. After all, you’re paying, so who am I to say ‘no’? Just remember that some information might be dangerous to know, but I respect an inquisitive and curious mind.
So, where to begin? The divisions of the Wyld Faerie lands have been covered, the politics of the Seelie and Unseelie, a tenuous truce that would risk all fae should it be broken? All of these have been covered, you desire something different. I can’t guarantee that overlap will not happen, but I’ll try my best. Let us journey forward, back into the Deep Ethereal and into the pocket dimensions of the sylvan kind. And from there, brief treks to both Seelie and Unseelie Courts.
Author’s Note: This somehow evolved into its own post! This was supposed to be part of the previous one, but it was quickly getting too long. Also, I found myself coming up with more and more ideas. In addition, sampling bits from the fey wild articles for dragon magazine. Special thanks to Matt Sernett and Will Doyle there. So, that’s why similar names show up. But hey, this is the planescape version. Also, have some callbacks to earlier ideas as well. Likewise, I sneak in a few more Spelljammer references, though I have yet to focus on Spelljammer.
Author’s Note: This is a mess. I had an idea for a Ravenloft domain that takes from Planescape and Spelljammer. It quickly became this gonzo and stupid mess that I wasn’t fully content with. All the same, it’s perfect for today! Well, Happy April Fool’s Day.
Dear reader, I admire your dedication to my works. But take heed, such dedication also puts your life in danger. No doubt, when these scrambled notes become an elaborate codex, such books will see ban in no time. You wouldn’t believe the among of jink offered to hack my head and serve it on a Lady’s grade platter. As always, their hunt continues. Mine continues in the expanse of knowledge. Plenty of conflict bubbles and oozes beyond your surface. Ready and prepare, the safety of the multiverse always hangs in the balance. Let me serenade you with many tales. But, these aren’t tales of joy or triumph, no! Tales of woe await you.
Author’s Note: “The Editor” is back, not content with simply The Factol’s Manifesto! Plenty of things going on, the fall and rise of deities, more on the fey, dark conspiracies of intrigue, a look at my old table’s post-2008 take on the Forgotten Realms, a further looks at my zany Ravenloft-Planescape crossover and more! And of course, Baby Vecna! And as always, The Editor proves an ever unreliable narrator, as some details might be fabricated or stretched for his convenience.
The journeys through the lands of the mists continue. I find myself lost after leaving the dark clutches of Inza. It wasn’t my place to fully stop her. While the Black Rose is distant and gone, maybe someone else will thwart the usurper. In the meantime, the strange powers that be seem to carry me, as if they too wish to see my quest for knowledge fulfilled. But, they have an ulterior motive, for they never help one for free. Perhaps I can be of use to help put Darklords in their place? Given how I haven’t done much of that before, this is likely not the case…. But, something to ponder about later. Something to deeply ponder about.
The meddlings of displaced Kargatane is most disconcerting. Tales tell of Azalin’s meddling in an attempt to escape. And yet, I have successfully escaped… all the more reason to use me in an experiment. I’m not sure if I’m at the agenda of the dread lich or the Dark Powers. Either way, it’s likely that little good will come from this, save for me documenting these awful places for posterity. With any luck, I will be granted the same courtesy as before. Every time though, it feels like escape was from sheer luck of nothing bad happening or just the smallest window of survival. We shall see what awaits me then. With any hope, I can evade these agents of the lich for as long as possible. If I benefit with learning along the way, that’s certainly a positive, no?
Author’s Note: Ravenloft had a tendency to make crossovers with other settings. So, let’s pull from their dip into Dark Sun as well as Spelljammer, even examining a possible domain from Eberron! In addition, I look at a cluster I very much enjoy. Also, what is Ramon seeking? Why does he hide from Azalin?
As always, my travels take my throughout the known reaches of reality and beyond. Time time around, I have a few more places to examine once again. As always, there are familiar places and there are very much new ones. Travel along as we make our way through the elements and into raw darkness itself. As always, make proper preparations, as even I’m liable to find myself in danger. For a less experienced traveler, it would mark certain doom. But, for those ever brave in their desire to quest along the known and unknown planes, venture on and find unending wonder to behold. But, be warned, there is always an evil darkness lurking right around the corner. Should you tread foolishly, it will take you. And even then, I only seek it out of curiosity and study. I’ve been lucky once, surely I can escape in tact once more.
As always, I chronicle all means of places and people one might find within all know reaches of reality. Should one tip me off of some thrilling new adventure to seek, I am far from shy. As it is, I ready myself for a true journey through wildspace some day soon. However, the planes occupy the majority of my interests. As it is, I sense something I need to examine now. Or rather, I feel there is something I need to face soon. I can’t quite describe it, but I can attain that it is quite ominous. May I see you once again after it has concluded.
Author’s Note: Work and other things have held me back. But, hopefully, I’ll be able to keep myself going pretty strong during the autumn. I always seem to. So, I’m doing a return to mutilating the newer planes for classic usage via Primordium and the Entropic Gloom. Likewise, it might be fun to see what exists of The Void after its reality ensnaring tendrils are broken. Also, Planescape – Ravenloft Crossover? It must be October (or near it)!
Convergent. This is described as multiple facets of something coming together, usually to form something completely new.
You might inquire the relevance of this definition. This is simple. Reality as properly defined by both The Ancients and the Scholars of Gamma Terra is crumbling. And not only that, a possible new dimension, known to many as “Void Space” has opened up. Sensors detect that other possible realities have indeed converged upon this meeting point within space and time. Even stranger, these fragments of reality have merged together at points, making rather alarming hybridizations between worlds. Gardens with wires and machines growing instead of plants, octagonal platforms and hallways turned into castle-like labyrinths of stone and wood, whole buildings breaking off into floating land chunks in the cosmic soup. Completely unrelated confines and compounds have blended alongside others. A piece of a cabin has become tethered to a segment of an industrial warehouse, linking to a medieval dungeon. This dimensional space does not operate on principles of mundane logic. Data does indicate that these pieces are fused to instill stability between realities. This alternate world acts in a manner of coping mechanism. More information is required to properly analyze. Deployment is requested.
Author’s Note: What sort of mad crossover nonsense is this? Well, exactly that. Thanks to a long finished game, as well as the BLOOM mod for Doom 2, I’ve worked up some level of inspiration to cobble all means of absurd mash-ups. Also, I’ve been weaving some mythos-horror content into Planescape for a while. For the few people that played in crossover games with me, many of these games are directly referenced here. Set Wands to Warpdrive, in particular, literally broke realities. (It’s probably archived on my old tumblr page.) Technically, this exists outside of typical Planescape, but I’ve always pondered a nexus space between realities. It kind of worked for RIFTS already, why not in other things? Ramon is a background character as well.
As for crunch related stuff? I’ll get around to something. As I’ve already stated, I’d rather use a different gaming system, honestly.
I have touched upon The Outlands, yes. But, there is still more to see. The Concordant Opposition, a name with more than one meaning. To some, it’s the center point where all things converge. To some as well, it is the force fighting all planes at once. At least, this is what that Acts of Balance sect/faction proclaim. Beyond them, there are many more sights and sounds to observe within the center ring within the Wheel. With such a variety of experiences alone, a Sensate could spend a lifetime here.
Author’s Note: I enjoy doing these. As such, I have to return to this! Now, thanks to the Torment conversions and some of my own, that takes care of a number of monsters at least. The one bit from the Elemental post felt a bit tacked on, but it only made me wanting to do more. It begs the question, what happens when I run out of planes? Well, I’ve been making plans for another project.
If the Positive Energy Planes were a delight, then surely the Negative Energy Planes will be just as delightful… But really, one cannot describe the planes without a fuller picture. So, keep your life sources handy, as this is a place devoid of them.
Author’s Note: Okay, that about wraps things up. With that, I’m gonna try to tackle some monsters! I would have made a list for the Upper Planes, but I’ve already tackled a fair number of celestials. Also, I might just convert all of the Guardinals later, perhaps for a DM’s Guild related thing. Though, I want to port over my take on the Gehreleths/Demodands too… Maybe at some point?
We have discussed all of this talk about fusion planes, however we have neglected two very influential and prominent parts of the Inner Planes, the Positive and Negative planes; forces of literal life and death. And, as you’d expect, they too have their own alterations of the various planes beyond. Travel forth if you dare, to witness lively and deathly versions of the elemental planes you know so well.
Author’s Note: I had to push things back. I was gonna do a huge list of elemental things, and probably have a bunch of monsters by now. But, I haven’t had the extra energy in me. Plus, I’ve already referenced plenty of canon and custom monsters in previous posts, so that helps. At the very least, with this one finished, I can create a bunch of cool elemental/inner planes themed monsters! My own Planescape Monstrous Appendix III of sorts, if you will! One last note, I have Negative Energy stuff split off into another post too. Don’t worry, I’ll pop up a few days later. I just needed to break things up… It might prove to be a better format, to be honest. And as always, classical and popular culture are mined and bastardized for idea fodder.
The search for all that the elements have to offer continues. To put things simply, the elemental planes converge into their own realms of sorts. These fusions act as elemental planes in their own rights, the para-elemental as they are known. In addition, I can’t help but research some hypothetical planar fusions that come up in various lectures and notes across the planes. Someone’s idea of a practical joke? A sinister piece of the chant? Who knows? Either way, there is knowledge to find!
Author’s Note: The Inner Planes. Yeah, you gotta stretch the imagination a bit. All the same, I hope this thought exercise proves you can mold something out of a tough template. Hopefully, you’ll find some inspiration too. Though, not necessarily references to say /tg/ classic lore, DOOM or Warhammer or many other things either. Also, shout out to The Pathology Guy, whose take on the Inner Planes has been a large inspiration for me.
